We’re proud to be the Newman Teaching Academy, a collective of well-established schools in Stoke-on-Trent and Staffordshire, delivering high-quality Initial Teacher Training in Stoke-on-Trent and Staffordshire for both primary and secondary education. As a Teach First training partner for 2025–26, we’re dedicated to nurturing reflective, values-led educators who put children at the heart of their practice and are equipped to flourish in the classroom and wider life of the school.
Our one-year, school-based, research-led teacher training gives you plenty of hands-on experience in the classroom, leading to Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) and a Postgraduate Certificate in Education (PGCE). You will train in one of our schools and gain second placement experience in another contrasting school, giving you a broad perspective and diverse classroom experience. An expert mentor will support you as you flourish in your practice.
You’ll also have opportunities to apply for Early Career Teacher (ECT) roles across our network and further develop your career within our growing Trust of supportive Stoke-on-Trent and Staffordshire schools.

Teach First’s SCITT programme provides opportunities to train as a teacher in both primary and secondary education, with placements in your local area, including Stoke and Staffordshire.
As a secondary trainee, you’ll gain teaching experience across all key stages, including sixth form.
By training close to home, you’ll make a real difference in your community while building a rewarding career in education, with a starting salary of at least £31,000 after 12 months when you begin your ECT years (Early Career Teacher)
